Art Show Featuring
Page Graeber & Janice Pluma

Our featured artists for the Month of November:

Page Graber & Janice Pluma

Open to Interpretation

Abstract paintings and collage

Page Graber is an accomplished multi-media artist winning ribbons & “Best of Show” awards in recent years.  She is a “Signature Member” of many national & local painting societies and an active member in several local art associations.

After graduating from the acclaimed Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles she went on to work for many television stations and advertising agencies. Page works in several different medias: pen & ink, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media & murals.

Janice Pluma, a native Californian, was born in Los Angeles and raised in Sacramento. Her interest in art began in childhood, and has never diminished. She spent much of her adult life moving to different locales, and studied fine art at colleges in California, Colorado and North Dakota.

After attending college in North Dakota for several years, she found herself in Santa Maria, CA wanting to finally obtain a diploma. Because there was no university in the area offering a fine art degree, she entered California Polytechnic’s graphic design program.

Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Art and Design, she worked for various San Luis Obispo county newspapers and magazines and continued to paint. Eventually, Janice began a freelance business, Warpaint Graphics, specializing in print media: magazines, logos, business collateral and wine labels. Today, after a successful career as a graphic designer, her primary focus actively returns to fine art. Janice shares a collaborative studio, Atelier 708, with two other Paso Robles artists and shows her work in various solo and group exhibitions.

She is a past president of Paso Robles Art Association, member of Arts Obispo, Mendocino Art Association, and signature member/board member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters.

The Gothard Sisters are a dynamic group of three sisters, whose impressive array of talents have set them apart as one of the most refreshing and compelling acts in Celtic-roots music today.  The sisters' unpredictable and theatrical flair brings a youthful splash to the time-honored tradition of Celtic folk music, bridging the gap between classical, folk, Celtic, world and roots influences with a sunny, optimistic style that has been described as "beautifully arranged, melodic-minded Celtic folk-pop."

Featured Artist: Lori Sortino
Featured Artist: Lori Sortino

For the month of January, artist Lori Sortino will be displaying her pieces in the Events Gallery.  Stop by the Tasting Room to sample some Dam Fine Wine and view these breathtaking works of art. Open for viewing daily from 10am-5:30pm.

Lori has chosen to show a little of all of her current work here at Castoro.  Aside from her paintings, the bulk of her work is photography.  Her current focus’ with photography are: horses, action, landscapes, portraits, and ceremonial events.

Her paintings are from her ‘Painting with your Muse’ series, which is a painting style inspired by Shiloh Sophia McCloud and Jodi Bogart.  Lori fell in love with this style at her first workshop with Jodi in 2013.  When the painting is created, there is no pre-planning.  Everything that goes on the canvas comes from the muse within, in the moment, and the painting literally emerges to the artist through the process.  When done, the name reveals itself, and then the meaning or messages come through by sitting with the painting, usually within a day or so.

The Equine series has a story behind it.  Lori saw a friend’s post on facebook one day, full of photos of wild horses.  He had taken a trip to Nevada and had photographed wild horses.  Something inside her immediately knew she HAD to do this someday.  It went on her bucket list.  In December 2017, Lori was clipping photos out of magazines for collage work and she noticed an article about a Wild Horse Sanctuary in Lompoc and San Luis Obispo.  It caught her eye and she put the article on the fridge.

Around April 2018, she finally took the article out from under that magnet and went to the internet to look up this Wild Horse Sanctuary:  Return to Freedom*.  She found a week long photo safari led by world renowned equine photographer Tony Stromberg and was able to join this excursion June 25-29, 2018.   The photographs you see hanging in this show are from that week.  Lori came home with over 10,000 images.  Go to her web site www.essencecaptured.com and sign up for the newsletter to see the new horse image released each month.

Lori enjoys action photography with the horses, dogs, and also with people, such as participants in Marathons, Triathlons, and cycling events.  She loves to capture images at special events, such as the Long Dance Ceremony, which has been held locally for 28 years.  She loves to travel and photograph beautiful landscapes and nature, and has naturally photographed our California central coast.

Like the powerful mandolinist and composer at its helm, John Reischman and the Jaybirds fashion a stylish take on bluegrass that seamlessly blends original songs and instrumentals with Appalachian old-time music for a truly unique band sound. Now in their 20th year, with seven acclaimed albums and two Juno nominations, the Jaybirds are simultaneously innovative and unadorned, sophisticated and stripped-down, happily old-fashioned and 21st-century contemporary.
